Ingredients

For the Fruit:

  • 1 pineapple, cut into chunks

  • 2 peaches, halved and pitted

  • 1 pint strawberries, hulled

  • 2 nectarines, halved and pitted

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or melted butter

For the Glaze:

  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

For the Dip:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt or vanilla yogurt

  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Optional: sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high (375–400°F / 190–205°C). Brush the grates with oil to prevent sticking.

  2. Prepare the Fruit: Lightly brush the fruit with coconut oil or butter to encourage caramelization.

  3. Grill the Fruit: Place the fruit on the grill. Grill for 3–5 minutes per side, until grill marks appear and the fruit is tender but not mushy.

  4. Make the Glaze: While the fruit grills, mix honey, lemon juice, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Brush the glaze over the fruit as soon as it comes off the grill.

  5. Prepare the Dip: In a small bowl, combine Greek yogurt, honey, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth. Sprinkle with optional cinnamon or cocoa if desired.

  6. Serve: Arrange the grilled fruit on a platter. Serve with the yogurt dip on the side. Drizzle additional glaze over the fruit if desired for an elegant presentation.

Tips for Perfect Grilled Fruit with Dip and Glaze

Grilled Brown Sugar Bananas

Grilled Brown Sugar Bananas

Grilled bananas serve as a delightful side dish to complement savory meals, and they also function as a simple yet exquisite dessert.
Due to their robust and firm texture, bananas are ideal for grilling when they are just shy of ripeness; therefore, for this recipe, select firm yellow bananas that are not overly mature, as the heat will render them mushy.

In Caribbean cuisine, bananas are essential for balancing flavors in spicy dishes or heavily seasoned meats and fish.
These grilled bananas pair wonderfully with jerk chicken, spicy pulled pork, or even firm white fish such as cod or halibut. While they may not be a common side dish in certain regions, do not overlook these bananas and serve them alongside your preferred meats.
Additionally, grilled bananas make for a delightful dessert, perfect for topping vanilla ice cream and drizzling with a whiskey sauce.

To ensure a successful recipe, it is crucial to have a well-oiled grill grate before placing the banana pieces on it. Keeping the bananas in their peels will help them maintain their structure while grilling.

"I had never thought of grilling bananas before, and I am pleasantly surprised by their wonderful flavor. Using firm bananas, they stood up well to grilling and were not overly sweet. I wish I had known about this when raising my children! I am thrilled to have leftovers for my morning oatmeal."

Other Grilled Banana Desserts
The combination of bananas and ice cream is a timeless classic, but these grilled bananas can provide even more possibilities. Here are several ideas to maximize the potential of your bananas:

Fill a pre-made pie crust with grilled bananas, pour in enough egg custard to cover the fruit, and bake until the crust is golden and the custard has set. Allow the pie to cool and garnish with meringue or whipped cream and fresh raspberries.

Utilize the grilled bananas as a filling for wontons.
Fry the wontons until they are crispy, then dust with confectioners' sugar and drizzle with chocolate sauce.
The grilled bananas will add an extra dimension of flavor to your favorite banana bread recipe.
Simply substitute the cooked bananas for the raw ones in your recipe.

Place the grilled bananas on a serving plate, drizzle them with dulce de leche, and top with crushed cashews or almonds.
The grilled bananas can be processed into a sauce and further cooked with 1/4 cup of whiskey until the sauce has browned and reduced in volume, around 15 minutes on medium heat.
Pour the sauce over pound cake or French toast.

What type of fruit is best to grill?

  • 2 kiwis, peeled and cut into thick slices

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or melted butter

  • Wooden skewers (soaked in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning)

For the Chocolate Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or coconut cream

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Optional: pinch of sea salt or cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium (around 375°F / 190°C). Brush the grates lightly with oil.

  2. Assemble the Kebabs: Thread the fruit onto soaked wooden skewers, alternating colors and textures for a visually stunning presentation.

  3. Grill the Kebabs: Brush the fruit lightly with coconut oil or melted butter. Grill for 3–5 minutes per side, until grill marks appear and the fruit is slightly caramelized.

  4. Prepare the Chocolate Sauce: In a small saucepan over low heat, combine chocolate and cream. Stir until smooth and melted. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt or cinnamon if desired.

  5. Serve: Arrange the grilled fruit kebabs on a platter and drizzle generously with chocolate sauce. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Tips for Perfect Grilled Fruit Kebabs

  • Use firm, ripe fruit: Soft fruit can fall apart on the grill.

  • Alternate colors for a visually appealing presentation.

  • Experiment with chocolate flavors: Dark, milk, or white chocolate all work beautifully.

  • Add toppings: Crushed nuts, shredded coconut, or a sprinkle of sea salt elevate the dish.

  • Adult twist: Add a splash of liqueur (like Grand Marnier) to the chocolate sauce for a sophisticated touch.

Why This Recipe Works

Grilling enhances the natural sweetness of the fruit, adding a subtle smoky depth. The chocolate sauce provides rich, creamy indulgence, creating a dessert that’s both healthy and decadent. The kebab presentation makes it fun, shareable, and perfect for entertaining.

OTHER RECIPES

If I were to choose a single season throughout the year to designate as my favorite, it would undoubtedly be summer. Pool parties, picnics, and extended days at the beach are all part of it. I relish the warm sunshine on my face, submerging my head underwater, and then enjoying cold fruit as the water trickles down my skin. Summer is truly the best.

The availability of fresh seasonal fruit significantly contributes to my affection for this time of year. Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, watermelon, peaches, grapes, and pineapple are all delightful on their own, but it can also be enjoyable to discover inventive ways to present them when hosting guests. These fruit kebabs serve as the ideal solution.

By simply arranging the fruits on bamboo skewers and pairing them with a creamy chocolate dipping sauce that takes only 10 minutes to prepare, you will leave everyone with the impression that you are an accomplished host.

The dipping sauce consists of a straightforward blend of raw cashews, cocoa powder, pure maple syrup, vanilla, non-dairy milk, and a hint of sea salt. Blending these ingredients results in a rich chocolate cream that you will need to resist consuming before your guests arrive.

I opted for a combination of my favorite fruits (strawberries, pineapple, grapes, and blueberries), but you are welcome to use any varieties you prefer. If you are feeling indulgent, you could even incorporate small pieces of vanilla cake onto the skewers, but the fruit alone is sufficiently sweet and satisfying.

In total, the kebabs require less than 20 minutes to prepare and can be kept for several hours if you wish to make them ahead of time. They are the perfect refreshing treat for a warm summer day!
